My Protein Shaker Smells Bad: Quick Fixes

Listen bro, at some point in your life, you’ll be consuming protein shakes. But let’s face it, we can be pretty damn forgetful at the best of times, and a common mistake is not washing out your protein shaker.

These are some pretty common scenarios below:

  • You’ve left your protein shaker in the car for a week
  • You’ve forgotten to wash your protein shaker for a week
  • You left your protein shaker at your friends house after the gym

Whatever reason why you haven’t been using your protein shaker, if you haven’t washed it in a week, then it’ll smell like sh*t. Real diarrhea type sh*t (or cheesy feet).

But don’t worry, here at SpotMeBro, we’re giving you some quick fixes – to make your protein shaker smell normal and help make America great again.

Check it out:

Quick Fixes for Smelly Protein Shakes

1. Put It In The Dishwasher

This is the easiest fix of them all. It means you won’t have to smell the disgusting smell radiating out of the protein shaker for too long.

Just stuff it into the dishwasher and hope for the best.

In fact, we’ve seen great results with this method ourselves. But it did take 2-3 spins for the smell to completely leave the protein shaker.

What to do:

  • Pinch nose, open & rinse protein shaker
  • Add dishwashing soap inside protein shaker
  • Stuff into dishwasher and pray to the god of gainz
  • Wash 2-3 times

2. Baking Soda

There’s a chance that you don’t have a dishwasher, so the rest of our solutions only involve hardcore labor.

Baking soda seems to be a fix for many things recently – from helping to clean burned pans to your fridge. But you might not have known that it’s also great for getting rid of that funky-ass smell out of your protein shaker.

This fix isn’t really ‘quick’, but the title brought you here, didn’t it? So stop complaining and see what’s going on below…

What to do:

  • Pinch nose, open & rinse protein shaker
  • Add 2 spoons of baking soda & fill with water
  • Mix, then leave for 1 hour
  • Wash out with soapy water
  • Repeat until smell has disappeared

3. Vinegar

Ah, vinegar. If you live or have been to the UK before, then you’ll know how great it is with fish & chips.

We all have that bottle of vinegar sitting in our cupboard. Well, here’s the time to deploy that little soldier and send it into war.

If you’re worried about your protein shaker smelling like vinegar afterwards; don’t worry, we’ve tried this and it doesn’t.

What to do:

  • Pinch nose, open and rinse protein shaker
  • Fill container (big enough to fit protein shaker) with boiling water
  • Add 1-2 cups of vinegar
  • Disassemble protein shaker and add to container
  • Leave for 1-2 hours
  • Wash protein shaker with soapy water

4. Steel Wool

We found this quick fix in the forum of bodybuilding.com. And we’ll admit one thing – this is the a fix that we haven’t tried ourselves (so trust the bro’s on the forums…)

Anyway, it’s claimed that simply rinsing out your smelly protein shaker with dish-washing soap and steel wool is enough to remove the ‘eggy-fart’ smell.

We’re quite interested in this, but we don’t have any more smelly protein shakes to try it on – so let us know in the comments section whether this works!

What to do:

  • Pinch nose, open and rinse protein shaker
  • Wash with dishwashing soap and steel wool
  • Repeat until smell is gone

5. Denture Tablets

The final quick fix on this list. If you’ve tried all of the others and still have a protein shaker smelling like sh*t, then good luck.

Anyway, we’ve read that denture tablets (which you buy at any drugstore) will help take away the smell of your smelly protein shaker.

What to do:

  • Pray to the god of gainz
  • Fill protein shaker with boiling water
  • Add denture tablet
  • Dance around a fire while praying to the god of gainz
  • Wash protein shaker out with soapy water

Conclusion

Honestly, if you’ve actually tried all 5 of those fixes and your protein shaker still smells bad…then just throw that sh*t out. Please.

Unless you have a dishwasher and you can just leave it in there for 2-3 spins, it can take a lot of time to stop your protein shaker from smelling horrible. You’ll save a lot of time by driving to a supermarket and buying a new protein shaker (or ordering one online).

However, if any of these quick fixes worked for you, then let us know in the comments section so others believe us!
