Here’s a rare one for you — Tom Platz training his chest.
Although some of you might think “Well, duh! Of course, he’s training chest, otherwise, he wouldn’t be a bodybuilder.” Correcto! It’s just not something you see every day, so it’s a little surprising to see Platz do a little upper body work.
Here’s the thing, when you think of Tom Platz, you think of legs and of the brutality that was his leg training. When you think of chest, you’re more likely to lean towards Arnold or Franco, not Platz.
Despite the fact that Platz was known for his intense leg workouts, the training that he put the rest of his body through was equally intense as that of his legs.
Have a look at the video below and have a look for yourself how the Golden Eagle worked on his upper body:
Suffice it to say that his chest wasn’t nearly as strong as his legs were, even if you had to scale the weights down to match.
One thing I feel like I should point out though is the fact that his training methods were about as unorthodox as it gets. Never in my life have I seen someone drop dumbbells down to his chest like that when cranking out chest presses.
Nevertheless, Platz had a great physique all around, despite the weird training styles that he incorporated.
Let us know what you think about Platz’s training and if he should’ve done things differently.
