I don’t need to tell you how important nutrition is to any fitness enthusiast. But if you’re here, that means you have food cravings, yeah? Don’t worry! While sweets, chocolates and pizzas are delicious, there are many ways you can avoid overeating junk food and still enjoy a happy and rewarding life.
See how to avoid food cravings below:
1. Know When You’re Hungry
While it sounds easy, most people can’t distinguish whether they are hungry, dehydrated or simply don’t have anything else to do. To overcome this problem, take a short break before eating junk food and ask yourself if you’re truly hungry. Maybe you crave food because you’re sad or stressed and want to satisfy yourself? If you can realize what encourages your cravings, you’ll learn how to stop them.
Or, you could simply really be hungry. In that case, you should probably eat an additional healthy meal.

2. Understand Why You Eat Junk Food
While chocolates and French fries are unhealthy, maybe at this time they are healthy. Of course, they have many chemicals, but the reason why junk food can be healthy for you is because you may lack nutrients. For example, you may crave French fries because you lack salt or chocolates because you don’t get enough magnesium or sodium through your run-of-the-mill chicken and rice meals.
If you see long time cravings for specific products, you should learn about what nutrients these products provide and incorporate healthier options to give you the same boost, but with fewer calories.
3. Stop Thinking About Cravings
The old saying goes something like thoughts become actions, so stop thinking about junk food. When you imagine the taste, color, texture, and size; guess what happens to your body? It starts to act as if you’re eating! Your stomach starts to secrete digestive enzymes and your salivary glands produce saliva which makes you crave food.
To eliminate this problem, drink water or hot liquids like tea and coffee to decrease your craving to eat junk food. If it doesn’t help, take a sugar-free chewing gum to mimic the illusion that you are eating.

Dwayne Johnson loves to shout “FOCUS!” You should remember his words because they help us maintain concentration. But not on junk food — on long-term goals; whatever they are. Whether it’s to make gains, get shredded, find a girl or live a healthy life. Remember that junk food doesn’t help us to succeed and only keeps us further from our achievements.
Instead of wasting time on bad thoughts, focus on your goals and they’ll become much easier to achieve.
5. Prevent Food Cravings
Yep, you won’t eat junk if you throw it away. Eliminate harmful products from a refrigerator and “secret” locations where you keep snacks. After this process of purging unhealthy foods, go out and buy gangloads of healthy food; nut butters, fruits, natural ice cream, smoothies and many other products are tasty and healthy at the same time.
Make sure you stock up good on the healthy options and junk food cravings will become additional healthy meals.
